How sex, the right kind, can improve your next day

Sex has been shown to have innumerable benefits, like a glowing skin or burnt calories. However, can sex give you a greater meaning in life? Sex has been seen in two contradictory ways, one is carnal and the other, spiritual. Now, if sex is fulfilling and of the right kind (whatever that is for you), can it improve the quality of your life?

CAN SEX MAKE YOU HAPPIER? The above question prompted researchers to lead research into the subject. They started with the objective to test sex as a means to better our emotional health and our perception of life.

THE STUDY: Todd Kashdan from the University of George Mason, along with other researchers, conducted a study around the subject. Their findings are published in the journal Emotions.

4/8​Sex's effects can last until the next day

SEX'S EFFECTS CAN LAST UNTIL THE NEXT DAY: The study found that sex's positive impacts can last until the following day. However, it is greatly affected by the dynamics of your sexual relationship.

THE VOLUNTEERS: During the study, 152 participants were asked to keep a record of their sexual activity and their levels of satisfaction for a period of 21 days. The volunteers consisted of students in the age group 18-20. Of the total volunteers, 76 per cent were women and 64 per cent are in a relationship.

SEX LED TO POSITIVITY: The conclusions that followed established that on the days when people had sex, they felt more positive and had a greater sense of meaning in life.

WHAT CAME FIRST - SEX OR SENSE OF FULFILLMENT? However, researchers asked them what came first - sex or sense of fulfillment. While sex related to a positive mood the following day and a positive outlook in general, a positive mood did not necessarily correlate with sex.

RELATIONSHIP VS FLING: Also, sex in a loving relationship and sex during a casual date didn't lead to any difference in its impact. They both led to a positive outlook.
